Note for Leah...

On Friday, this note was in my post basket. I thought it was quite sweet but I'm not sure about the beginning! I don't know anyone called Leah so, unfortunately, it was put in the wrong door!

A quiet week

So, what has been happening the last week or so... Well, not much really! I have been feeling quite tired and haven't had much energy or motivation to do anything over the last week so I don't have much to write about this week.

I'm typing this on my new laptop, I'm finding it much easier to type than on the iPad. I'm not so sure about Windows 8 but you can easily switch to the desktop, just like in previous Windows versions.

I haven't really been taking many pictures over the last few weeks but I did manage to take some yesterday. When I was putting the washing out I saw a large bee on the tree, covered in pollen but I didn't have my camera outside, when I came back out with my camera the bee had gone! Later on, I took my camera out and managed to get a few photos.

This is the tree, I'm not sure what it is though. I like the shadows of the washing!

The flower close up.

I like this one from underneath the plant, I was trying to get the ladybird but it's a bit too dark.

Autumn is definitely in the air now, it's sad to say goodbye to Summer so soon. Although we've had some really nice weather, it doesn't really feel like we've had much of a Summer.

I hope you've all had a lovely week.

Insects and Maggots!

I saw this insect walking along the bathroom wall on Sunday night but it had died by Monday morning. I put it on a tissue to photograph it and the back legs started twitching but it didn't get up so I'm not sure what was happening! I couldn't find it in my book, could it be a grass hopper? It didn't jump, only walked.

This morning I noticed a few maggots on the compost/food bin outside. We've only ever had a handful inside the bin before but when I looked inside the bin they were everywhere! I decided to wash the bin out down the manhole but I couldn't get them out of the food bag that was already in the bin. When I looked this evening there were more maggots over the bin lid. At the moment they bins are emptied every other week but from October the council will be emptying them every week. Do you have any advice for getting rid of them?

Have you see any of the meteors over the last few nights? I looked out on Monday and Tuesday night but I didn't see any. There are some good pictures here.

Hope you're having a good week.

Trip to Littlehampton

I enjoyed our trip to Littlehampton, even though we didn't get that much beach time. As usual, we didn't leave home until late on Monday, at about 12.30pm (I was ready but the others weren't!). We took two cars, I drove and stopped on the way for lunch. We went straight to the beach car park, it was about 3.30pm and I put some sun cream on in the car as it was quite bright. We headed towards the beach and it started raining a little bit then after about 10 minutes the heavens opened and we were drenched so we decided to go to the hotel! Being typical English weather, it was bright again when we got to the hotel! We stayed at Premier Inn Littlehampton and although it was a bit more expensive than I usually pay, it was really nice and had air conditioning. We had dinner at The Roundstone pub, next door to the hotel then settled into our rooms.

Tuesday was supposed to be nice so we got ready to go to the beach, it was mainly sunny and about 23°c. I put sun cream on but unfortunately still got a bit burnt in a few places I had missed! I don't usually let myself get burnt as I have pale, freckly skin and can burn within 30 minutes. We hired deckchairs and sat and read, the kids paddled a bit and played in the sand and we looked for sea glass. Littlehampton is quite good for sea glass, we found white and green and, in total, found about 10 pieces. Again, we had dinner at the pub then went to our rooms.

On Wednesday we went to the beach for about an hour but because one of the cars was playing up we left quite early. The drive home was a bit of a nightmare as we followed the others in case they broke down but lost them about half way back and then it took ages to do the last bit. We got back around 7pm but we did stop for petrol and to get a few bits of shopping!

Since being back I've felt really tired but have been getting on with a bit of crocheting. I also got my new TV on Thursday so I've been enjoying that too! I have been looking at laptops as well, I find it quite hard to type on the iPad and sometimes it can accidentally put a photo in and makes the whole post get mixed up!

Hope you all have a great week!

Something for the weekend

I haven't managed to do one of these posts for while and these pictures aren't the best.

The things I'm looking forward to this weekend are:

  • Watching Luther Series 2 before I watch Series 3. Even though it is sometimes gruesome, it is brilliant.
  • Godparent - Being a Godparent for my nephew on Sunday at his Baptism/Christening.
  • Packing for a few days in Littlehampton, we are staying at a Premier Inn and are hoping to get to the beach but the weather doesn't look promising!
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Do things come in threes?

I'm not really a superstitious person but three painful things have happened to me in the last week. These were, 1) I knocked my thumb and had pain in my wrist and thumb joint, 2) my wisdom tooth has been hurting, it's impacted and I'm waiting to have it taken out under sedation and 3) I pulled a muscle in my back on Monday. Although my thumb and back are feeling a bit better now, my tooth is still hurting a bit. My nan always believes things come in threes, she is very superstitious. She has lots of sayings but the one I always remember is, you can't do clothes washing on New Years Day as it washes someone out of the family. I don't really believe in them! Do you have any that you believe in?

Now I have my PPI money, I'm going to treat myself to a new TV and maybe a DVD player too. I have an old, big backed TV and the picture has started to stretch off of the screen. I also wanted to get a new corner sofa but couldn't find one small enough to fit into the space but now my sister and nan are both getting new sofas. My nan's will fit into my small space and my sister's will fit into the other space so I have saved a bit of money there! I'm thinking about getting a laptop too as I only have my nan's iPad at the moment. My dad is making me a new TV cabinet, this is the picture I have given him. It's this one from Oak Furnitureland.

I have a lot of sorting out to do before I get these new things though!

I've had the chop!

It's nothing sinister, I've had my hair cut! I've been wanting to get it cut for a while but couldn't afford it until now. I'm pleased with how it's turned out but I have a bit at the front that keeps falling on my face, I get this every time I have my hair short and usually end up just clipping it back. Here are the before and after photos from the back.

This heatwave is set to continue into next week, with temperatures possibly reaching 35°c! It's lovely to see the sun but it has been a bit too hot for me. It's like a bug hotel here at the moment, especially at night!

This was yesterday and about 28°c, it's a bit small for me to sit in but the kids loved it!

I finally got my deckchair out, under the gazebo!

The bees are enjoying the lavender.

I noticed I haven't done a 'Something for the weekend' post for a while so will try to do one soon.

Hope you all have a great weekend!
